Let’s Play Blog Tag… I’m It!

There’s a viral game of blog tag going around, where bloggers tag each other to post five things about themselves on their blog. I’ve been tagged simultaneously by Ferry den Dopper, my Dutch counterpart and Muriel Vandermeulen, who has an interesting blog (in French) about how to write for the web.

I guess it means that either a) someone wants to know or b) (the most likely reason) they ran out of people to tag… So here it is:

5 little-known facts about myself

  1. I speak 2.85 languages
As a linguist wannabe, I have studied several languages including Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese), German, Spanish and (currently) Hindi. I am originally a Francophone and I also speak English. The remaining 0.85 language is separated as follows:
    • Chinese:0.00 (I forgot everything!)
    • German: 0.05 (Read Only)
    • Spanish: 0.25 (Read & Understand)
    • Hindi: 0.55 (Read, Understand, Speak 30% fluently)
  2. My High School career profile found me best suited to be an oceanographer
Even though I don’t really like water or submarines
  3. Every single hat I have ever tried on has looked good on me
Consequently, I am saddened by the fact that people don’t wear hats anymore, and I can’t wear any of my vintage hats outside the house…
  4. My current favourite TV show is Battlestar Galactica
I haven’t felt this good about a SciFi show since Babylon 5!
  5. I killed my first fly at 6 months of age
By a freak coincidence, I threw my shoe and it landed on the wall, on an unsuspecting fly that had just landed in that very spot!

Now it’s my turn to tag:

  • Cristina Favreau, a good friend of mine and passionate Small Business Coach
  • Language Hat, my favourite linguistic blogger, who also happens to love hats!
  • Sandrine Prom Tep, of ergonomia.ca, a Montreal-based usability colleague I have yet to meet

    OK, let’s see:
    1. My beard is getting a noticeable white streak in the middle.
    2. I lucked into a job working in a movie theater (in New Haven) because they were showing <i>Caligula</i> and needed extra help. (Free popcorn, w00t!)
    3. I have an irrational prejudice against the German language, possibly because I had to learn it for grad school.
    4. Wrigley Field is my favorite place to watch a ball game (not that I’ve been there in… almost 20 years now, yikes).
    5. I have three, count ‘em three, Greek sailor caps.

Now go out there and wear your hats proudly! How are we supposed to get the world back on track if we don’t have the courage of our convictions?

    Here goes:

    1. I admit it… I’m hooked (and not just a little) on the TV series “Heroes”. I think about it all the time…
    2. I recently started eating my son’s baby food. While feeding him desert the other day, I rediscovered my love for blueberry baby food… now I buy extra just for me!! (Blame it on pregnancy cravings?)
    3. In 7th grade, I was cast to play the main character in the movie “Vincent and Me” My Mom was very concerned about the effect of entering such a life could have on me long term, so she encouraged me to turn down the offer… While this was a small, and pretty much unknown Canadian film, to this day I still wonder
“Where would I be today, had I accepted? Could I really be a movie star?”
    4. In line with point 3, I joined an acting class a few years ago (I had to know if it was in me). My last assignment was to play (in front of a small audience) the role of Mrs. Robinson from “The Graduate” (the scene where she enters Benjamin’s bedroom asking where the bathroom is). I must admit… I aced the role.
    5. My favorite food is popcorn (add dill pickle seasoning, and I’m in heaven).
